Adopting in Uganda may seem like it is a good thing but, it is terrible. People who adopt from Uganda have no idea what happens to those kids. There are over 3 million orphans in Uganda and the reason being is that they are taken from their families when they are young and used for money.
There was a family from the U.S who adopted from Uganda and thought they were doing something great, but they had no idea that there adopted daughter had a family and was taken unlawfully from them for no reason. According to CNN the Davis family did some extensive research to find out if their daughter was taken from her family. The reason they started to do research is because their adopted daughter kept telling them things about her previous family and her parents weren’t understanding they thought maybe it was her method of coping “It took a little over a year and a half to realize the things ‘our’ child was telling us were not adding up to the stories told within the paperwork and provided to us by our adoption agency,” said the Davis family. The Headline of this story is “The ‘orphan’ I adopted from Uganda already had a family.” Many kids in Uganda are affected by this because they are taken away from their families for no reason and are left completely confused it also affects the actual family of the child because someone just came in and took their child and they will never see them again which is very sad.
My opinion on this topic is that I totally disagree with it but the problem is that the other children that need adopted could end up not finding a family because people will just think that every child in Uganda that is put up for adoption is taken from their families which is not true. So, it’s hard to go against something like this but the children being taken from their families are permanently damaged and just left confused which is horrible. I am totally for adoption if it is done the correct way which is with the parents’ consent to put them up for adoption so that way their kid(s) can have a better life but I disagree with just stealing kids from their parents and putting them up for adoption for money. I could not imagine someone just coming in my house and taking me from my mom, putting me up for adoption, and going to some random family for the rest of my life that would just be terrible. So, it’s not that I disagree with adoption I just disagree with the way it is done in Uganda because it is unlawful.
The way this issue could be fixed is that we could all sign a petition and get the law or child services involved to make sure the adoption process in Uganda is done correctly. We could also do research on the child and the previous family to make sure that the orphan was not take from their previous family because the family in the story I was talking about felt very guilty because they feel like they had stolen their adopted child from her previous family. So, I feel that those are a couple ways this issue could be fixed.
